Porting a k03

UPDATE:
Port and polish job is complete and I got the car back.

results. in 6th gear where i would spike at 20 - 21 psi i now hit 24 - 25psi with no retuning and boost adjusts on my revo settings. The car pulls much harder and much smoother and at 6000rpm im still at 16psi which is up from the 14psi i was seeing. I hit higher boost in all of my gears now averaging 23psi spikes and where i was holding 15psi i am at 16 - 18psi.

The work was done by a great guy out here and is just awesome the whole car feels much more smoother and hits 23psi and holds that for far longer than i ever held just 20psi.

I will have it dynoed hopefully this week for numbers and things of that nature.

Pics:

Enjoy. Best $200 i spent yet.

OP:
Has anyone done this to their turbo?

I have a friend with an extremely custom evo who does machining and he said he would port my k03 and make it far more effiecent and make it flow more air. Is this possible?

He also thinks that if i completely port the turbo and then machine it and put in k04 internals i will see great results and alot more power as the turbo can move more air.

Everyone says the k03 down fall is air movement. Well if I port it i can get more air and more flow for better effieceny correct?

Any thoughts or ideas? Maybe even porting it and using different k03 internals than the current ones..

grinding some k03s seems like a good idea. some have narrow inlets and outlets.

I'd do it. grind on it, put some bigger wheels in

grinding on a gti k03, go for it. post the results. check out the flow on your k03 before and after.

people port turbos all the time

do some searching, i'm sure someone has asked this question before, it'd be interesting to see if porting the K03 yields any gains

Yeah I have done some searching best thread found was the hybrid turbo one.

I guess I will port it and see what happens. It doesnt sound like itll cost me much at all or take very long for him to do so I will have to push the issue. And see what happens.

I am going to push for it. Thanks for the support. Yeah the k03 wheel is 45.03 mm and the k04 is 49.9 mm so it doesnt seem like a huge amount of machining needs to be done.

IIRC, this is what APR did with it's original KO4 kit. They took your KO3 turbo, ported it and threw in KO4 internals.

Hmm in this case if i did that i would have tuning hehe!

Oh APR chime in. lol!

Otherwise I am going to look at the Uni Suite and see how customized we can tune with that.

Porting my current k03 would more so just allow me to hold higher boost longer.

The Hybrid turbo thread takes care of all the "upgraded internals" questions etc.

I'm interested in what only doing a port would do. Obviously not as much as swapping out the internals, but it would be interesting to see what difference it makes.
