VAG-COM to improve factory Sound System's sound!?!?

So, I was poking around with my VAG-COM---trying to reset some radio related fault codes and under Radio, I noticed that there was a bit for "Sound Compensation". The choices included 0 - No Sound System, 1 - Cloth Interior (with Open Circuit detection), 2 - Leather Interior (with Open Circuit detection) and 4 - Cloth Interior w/o oc detection.

Mine was set to 0 so, I change it to 1. Then, I noticed that my stereo sounded punchier and overall sounded much better. I also noticed that the same volume setting sounded quieter (ie. I had to play it above VOLUME 14 to get it to sound as loud as 10 before).

Interesting, isn't it?

Anyone know what this bit officially does? What's yours set to?

Don't change this setting...doesn't work with our cars. Tried every option, all threw error codes.

Yes you can change it, but check your fault codes now for that module.
