Are the mkvi gti arms lighter than mkv then?
..

yes, as they´re made of cheap pressed sheet metal
but not lighter than alloy of course.

The Passat hub and LCA seems like a more economical choice.

Yup. Anyone got the p/n for passat arms?

Edit: to answer my own question... the p/n's seem to be:
3C0407151E & 3C0407151F current?
(3C0407151A & 3C0407151B old?)

Hope this is useful for someone.

Now, can anyone confirm Passat hubs are compatible and aluhminum?

Anyone know if there is a difference between the passat spindle and the s3?

Figure if there isn't you would be able to run s3 bbk if using the either aluminum spindle, right?

All the same stuff. You can fit S3 brake to Passat hubs.

Keep in mind to get the correct bolts and nuts !!!

Bolts for alloy hubs are longer and nuts are collar type.
Using standard Mk.VI hardware isn't safe !!

Need some advice, is the vw passat b6 and Audi s3 spindles sharing the same parts nos. 3c0 407 257f and 258f.
Also is it direct bolt on to my gti mk 5 so as to reduce unsprung weight..

TT Mk2 Lower Control Arms & Ball Joints

This is a great modification. I repeat the part numbers below so it is clear what I did.

I purchased these in Germany, and got them forwarded by a German freight forwarder. Part price around AU $540. Shipping around AU $80.

TT Mk2 arms are exactly the same length as the GTI ones and TT Mk2 ball joints have oblong shape holes which provide 6mm adjustment to play around.

TT arms are also 1,8kg each lighter than GTI/A3 ones.

All together TT arm and ball joint give at the minimum set up 1,6° negative camber and at the maximum set up 2,4° of negative camber.

Previously I had a WALK and WL bushings, but after only 15,000 km they are pretty much shot. Anyone want to buy them? :bonk: Guess I shouldn't have said they were shot.

Ben from Pedders South Melbourne looked at the options, and we agreed that using the complete TT Mk2 system was the best way to do the mounting.

The TT Mk2 mounts have one mounting hole (from three) slightly offset from the GTI / Jetta. Solution is to slot the end hole, and it fits. Pictures demonstrate.

Final Suspension alignment is:
Rear:
Camber: L -118', R -1 17'
Toe: L +0.2mm, R +0.2mm

Front:
Castor: L +7 45', R +8 09'
Camber: L -2 49', R -2 11'
Toe: L +0.3mm, R +0.3mm

Parts numbers are:

1- Lower control arm:
Amount required=2 total, 1 per side
Part number=8J0 407 151 D

2- Bolt to attach lower arm :
Amount required= 2 total, 1 per side
Part Number=N 101 410 03

3- Ball Joints:
Amount required= 2 total, 1 per side
Part number= 8J0 407 365 (LEFT SIDE), 8J0 407 366 (RIGHT SIDE)

4- Ball Joint bolts:
Amount required= 6 total, (3 per side)
Part Number= N103 320 02

5- Ball Joint Lock Plates:
Amount required= 2 total, 1 each side
Part number= 8J0 407 175 (176)

Is the Passat control-arm a bolt-on for R32 too? Any weight savings in the front of the car are always welcome...

How does using the TT LCA bushing mount locate the LCA compared to the GTI bushing mount? There is a difference, right? i wonder how that effects geometry.

Nice pics, thank you very much !!

Why didn't you use the Whiteline bracket with the TT bushings pressed in?

Telaio,
yes, RS3/S3/Passat/Cupra arms fit plug & play to you R32 = GTI swivels.

There's just a limited number of lower control arms:

A) all of the same geometry, fully interchangable:

1. welded steel - lower Golf Mk.V and some GTI, A3, Leon, Octavia, Passat ...
2. cast iron/steel - R32, Mk.VI R, Xenon equipped Mk.V GTI, A3 TDI, A3 3.2 ...
3. pressed steel - all Mk.VI without R and GTI equipped with 19", newer Leon, Octavia ...
4. forged aluminium - RS3, S3, Leon Cupra, more powerful Passats, Touran, Sharan ...

B) different geometry, offer more and adjustable camber when fitted to above cars:

- TT Mk.II arms

That's it.

Why not use the WALK bracket with TT Mk2 bushing?

I think the shop thought it was a simpler and faster solution to slot the bracket, and therefore cheaper for me.

We were considering getting new WL bushes for the WALK, but that would have meant waiting a day, and another disassembly cycle. More cost.

Anyway, this method demonstrates a solution I hadn't seen previously. Slotting the TT Mk2 bracket could be done at home, whereas pushing out the bushes needs a specialist machine.

The end result feels much firmer than the worn WALK, and it doesn't clunk and bang, which I'd become used to and attributed to "enhanced" suspension.

Ok I'm trying to make sense of this (bear with me). I'd like to reduce unsprung weight in the front by moving to aluminium S3 parts and throw in the TT bushings for more precise turn in. So far I've found the following part-numbers:

- S3 arms: 1K0 407 151 AK (left), 1K0 407 152 AK (right)
- TT bushings: 8J0 199 231 (* 2)

Now, are the S3 hubs a drop-in replacement for R32 and if yes, what are the part-numbers? Do I need to buy some bolts too (numbers)?

Cheers!

If you get these S3 arms you don't need TT bushings as they're at least almost the same.

Yes, S3/Passat swivels fit plug & play to both GTI and R32.

Once again:

1K0 407 151 AK ~ 130,-- € - S3 arm left (includes bushing)
1K0 407 152 AK ~ 130,-- € - S3 arm right (includes bushing)

8J0 598 625 (2x) 170,17 € wheel bearing - get new at least when old one is worn

3C0 407 253 F ~ 240,-- € - S3/Passat swivel left
3C0 407 254 F ~ 240,-- € - S3/Passat swivel right

(formerly: TN 3C0 407 257 F / 3C0 407 258 F)

3C0 407 365 A - 50,-- € - matching ball joint left
3C0 407 366 A - 50,-- € - matching ball joint right

WHT 000 785 + WHT 000 785 A - nuts

Take care to use the correct collar nuts. The use of wrong nuts is dangerous !!
