Rusting wheel hubs

After washing my GTI yesterday, I noticed a small patch of rust on the hub of my front right wheel. It's small and superficial, only about 1cm x 5cm, but it's still concerning that this car is just over 1 month old and already the wheel hubs are showing rust.

I've heard about the rusting hub issue in a local car magazine who have a long-term test GTI, but I didn't think it'd start so soon.

Anyone else noticing rust on their hubs??

I think we have something like a 10 year rust protection waranty.

Isn't that just on the bodywork? Don't know if it applies to the wheels, but in this case the warranty should cover it.

The rotor hats rusting happens all the time.
Not a warranty thing. Just look at all the rust under your car
Just get a wire brush and brush the entire hat (getting the rust off as well).
Use masking tape to mask the caliper.
Then get some silver brake caliper paint and paint the hats.
I do this every summer to all my cars and actually did that earlier today on the GLI.

 Nice idea...

It's iron or steel and won't hold coating (extreme temps) or the coating will throw the hub thickness off, not sure which one. Every car I've ever had experienced rotor rusting. Some of them right after washing the car. Exhaust manifolds do it, some suspension components as well.

Horsefeathers!!!
Like I said, I've been doing it for a number of years.
A thin coating of paint is not going to throw the hub thickness off and paint will adhere if done right. I seen anodized hats as well.

The correct process for doing brakes is to use a "whiz" wheel on the hub the rotor rests on as the rust formation adds run out. You'd be fine painting the "hat" part so long as you stay off the mating surfaces.
