I actually like that location. Definitely better than the glove box.
It also allows you to actually store stuff in your armrest and not have to empty it out every time you need to get at the Aux plug.

put a bottle of water in front of it & it won't sit flush because of the aux cord sticking out. But i guess when you get the actual plug, you can place it where ever you want.

hmm. not too bad. I put one right inside the center glovebox (spliced into the factory one). I got tired of having a wire slamming in the glove box and routed over to the cup holder. it's much easier to get to.

My buddy has that Aux jack on his 08 GTI. He moved it next to the ESP button and it fit perfectly... Sorry no pics
