Loud Thump from the engine compartment

This morning I went to turn on my car and as i was trying to start it there was a loud thump, like a car hit me. I turned it off and tried again and it was fine. Drove fine and anything. Now I know something is not right, because cars don't normally do this.

Anyone got any answers for me ? :iono:

at the very least I'd take a look at the belts to see if anything is ragged or torn

I had a similar issue a few years back with another car. My issue turned out that I had broke one of the motor mounts. When I started up the engine, the engine would raise up a bit, and then slam back down on the chassis (causing the banging noise). It would then only do it again if I took a sharp turn. Replaced the motor mount, and problem went away. Just have VW take a look at it on Monday.
