My son traded our old '08 GTI in on another car back in January, and I still have the 2nd flip-key for the car. He traded the car in another state and I have no way of contacting the new owner.

Does the key have value to another MKV owner? Can it be programmed for someone else's car? It has been unused for the most part and looks brand new. What's it worth?

It's already cut though?

Another car can be programmed to recognize the remote transmitter and the immobilizer transponder. The problem is that the blades for that key are steel and most locksmiths cannot cut them. Also the ONLY people who can pair immobilizer transponders with a car is the dealership techs.

DeAutoKey has blades for sale. They can also give you an idea of the value of the rest of it.

Heck, i have a spare blade for one of those.

You could try contacting the dealer and asking if they still have the car for sale - then you can mail them the key. Or ask them to contact the new owner and given them your phone number. Or ask your dealer to contact the new owner.
