Excellent thanks for that ! I didn't see anything and to start pulling would have just ended in misery as things started to snap !

because the thread started in 2007, and most likely the links for those pictures are down, they are a direct scan from your owners manual.

Maintenance Schedule for the GTI 2 0 scans from the manual

Oddly enough the power steering fluid is not listed in the manual. Anyone have clues as to what type of fluid I need to refill to level?

The maintenance and servicing schedules of your vehicles could be obtained from the user manual of the same. But have you lost the user manual? You could get one securely at manuals.co, and that too, without any costs.
