Finished getting the connector on the ECM side wiring. Still need to add Aux injectors, alternator and other wiring that doesn’t go to the ECM 60 pin connector.
Also figured out why i could only put male terminals into both ends of my connector...they were both the receptacle style instead of the plug style even though they fit together. The correct connector is on the bottom, it has a protruding end that houses female terminals. The only difference in the part number is one letter, ordered the wrong one a long while back ![]() ![]()

Man, I don't miss working with those plugs haha. Biggest one I've seen had 128 pins.

Picked up brass shift fork pads to go with my steel shift forks and a 4th gear support. Haven’t been working on the car much because I’ve been finishing up building a photography studio for the wife in our backyard

Ordered some 4140 to machine for the input shaft. The rear of the shaft is hollow from the factory, going to have it machined with a slight interference to press and weld in. Hopefully with the case brace and billet insert I can keep 4th gear alive for a while

2 years of my life waiting for every update with excitement..........
Whilst you are rebuilding and reinforcing the gearbox there's a few other parts you might want to consider such as gearbox reinforcement plate and the 5/6th gear selector fork reinforcement kit. https://www.darksidedevelopments.co....ent-plate.html "][/url] |

Unfortunately, the case reinforcement wont work on the 02Q (MKV) as it has a steel and rubber plug vs solid aluminum on the 02M (MK4) ![]() Also dont need the 5-6 reinforcement because I have a full steel 5-6 fork already

Bought an 08 Passat wagon for $400 off craigslist. Pretty clean overall, needs front fenders (rust), valves/belt, cam, HPFP and valve body. Kbb is just under 5k running

Got the head pulled off the Passat in about 4 hours this afternoon. Looks like one of the roller bearings for the timing belt failed and trashed it. The front crank seal cover is damaged and needs replaced, only 6 exhaust valves and 2 intake valves were bent in the process. Valves barely touched the pistons so they’re still in good shape. Hope to start reassembling by next weekend

Id pull the whole turbo off. Not worth having it in the way, plus it would be easier

I left the turbo on the head and used an engine hoist to yank it all out as one. Benefit is that you dont have to undo the lower engine mount to pull the engine forward to clear the firewall and nuts on the manifold are much easier to reach once out of the bay. In your case, you wouldnt even have to remove the turbo once the head is off. Saved you some gaskets and frustration

Continuing the bulletproofing of the Passat. Replacing the thermostat and oil filter housing gaskets and also did the poor mans balance shaft delete since i already had to pull the pan and front oil seal cover. Engine is basically a bare block in frame now waiting for a full refresh. If anyone wants to donate some drop-in rods i’ll put them to good use

What really got me thinking about it is the new Honda 2.0T. For the Accord, Honda has balance shafts integrated into the oil pump very similar to the FSI design, but they are deleted in the Civic Type R for better track reliability.

From what I’ve been told, on stock style mounts it isn’t very noticeable. On my GTI with poly/Delrin, it’s veeeerrrrrry noticeable but i don’t mind it

Picked up the input shaft from the machine shop and had the new insert pressed in. Going to tack weld the end of it and thinking about fabbing up a pilot bearing extension for the splined end of the shaft to really make sure it won’t go anywhere
