Ac works sometimes

06 gti 120k. I don't use the ac a ton but when I want it its pain in the ass. I turn it on 20 mins later still hot air. I have tried playing with the temp and fan speeds nothing helps.

Here's were it gets weird if I turn the ac on and drive the car hard, beat up the car a bit, it will blow nice cold air there after.

When its on it does not seem to actually turn anything on, I don't feel that hp lose you would associate with the ac on, until I drive it hard and it actually turns on.



Anyone??

i wonder if your compressor is going out. id say that or maybe the high pressure switch. i know the '06 is known for both of those being bad

Compressor was replaced last year and worked good all summer

Check the fans and relays.

There's a regulator valve that is prone to getting clogged. I would swap that out if you're not leaking refrigerant. Search sanden pxe16 control valve. I changed mine and my ac works as if new. A lot of others had success with this as well.

Likely a sticky refrigerant control valve on the compressor. You can replace it yourself but need to have the system evacuated and recharged. The valve is about $65. Make sure you get the correct version for your compressor. Mine was snap-ring type for a Sanden compressor.
