Wrong sort of whine

I've got an '08 GTI with DSG.

I've noticed recently that when cold it has a real whine when accelerating. It seems fine when it warms up.

Is this a known problem? If so, what do I tell the stealer when I take it in?

Did you forget an anniversary, that causes something that is often in my car to whine???

What sort of whine might be useful? gearbox whine, engine whine (guess at a specific area of the engine)?

I'm not sure where it's coming from. I'm suspecting gearbox whine, but it could be the turbo.

Check the oil level. Mine would often do this when the oil was a little low due to burning it over time. Get's more obvious in the colder months.

Also if it hasn't been changed in a while might be time for an oil change
