Called the machine shop this morning, its done. Going to leave work early to pick it up. Im not very happy with this machine shop, hopefuly they did a decent job; they never even called to tell me it was done and it had been almost a week past when they said it would be finished :thumbdown:

Yeah, I wrote down a list of to-do items for them so they wouldnt forget. They wouldnt balance out the crank or rods, said they couldnt do it. Its not a huge deal, but any decent machine shop should be able to do that. This place came recommended by a few repair facilities as well as a couple local VW people. Guess ill have to try somewhere else next time

Block, crank and pistons are back. They even painted the block for me already. Engine is ready to come out, got lazy and didn't feel like dropping the subframe tonight to pull it from the bottom

So everything good to go for assembly? You know, except all the accessories off the old motor + head. Didn't see any pics of the head. Did you send that out too to be decked or anything?

Still has to be pulled off the old engine and sent out. Not doing anything crazy with it though, lapping valves/seats, check head for true, new guide seals. Should be 1-2 days and I'll have it back. Need a couple days to build the bottom end anyway

Dropped the nasty subframe, got the engine out. It wasn't easy doing it by myself but I got it. Pulled the passenger side strut and wheeled the engine out from under the car thru the fender well. Going to clean/degrease the subframe and bay then repaint whatever needs painted

Pulled the engine that was in the car apart. Found cool stuff in the pan
Then found that 4/5 mains had spun
Crank sensor picked up a few shavings
Rod bearings looked worn but ok
