Hello to all Asian MKV owners......:w00t:

Im glad that im the first user to post in this forum, and I hope that this wont be the last post:wink:

Im from Oman, middle east...

I have been a golf fan since i started using a MK4 GTI with the 2.3 V5 engine, and thats when the story began... Ever since i have always loved all VWs and especially Golfs...Now i own the MK5 GTI:headbang: Great car....

Any MK5 owner meetings in the Gulf area?? I would really like to participate and share new ideas... My car is stock till now, but im not planning on keeping it this way:evil: I dont have enough info on modding, and we dont have many tuning dealers (APR, GIAC, AMD, REVO, etc..) around here. Maybe I should checkout the UAE or something.

I'm also from Oman ( Nizwa) & I have black GTI, if you want to upgrade your car go first with Milltek exhaust system. The full system alone will give your car about 20bhp extra, but if you have an engine remap you will easily see the car running with over 265bhp. I wish we can communicate & have knowledge sharing discussion.

I'm from Bahrain and own a 2006 GTI. My first VW! What an amazing car

Anyway, regarding the exhaust, I contacted Milltek before, and they gave me the following contact: yazeed@chiplogic.ae.

My car is stock too. Not sure if I want to mod it or not, although it's very tempting!! Maybe wheels and a set of coilovers, and a chip. For now, I've decided not to go with an exhaust. I want something that handles well and drives fast. And the GTI has that!!

Good luck!

greetings all, glad to see I'm the first from the UAE here. I am surprised as there are a few GTIs around.

I have a white 3 door, its currently in bits in Al naboodah getting a new crankshaft, was it manufacturing fault or the fact the Middle East have the best roads (excluding dubai local traffic obviously) to test the perfromance. :iono:

I've had the car since November and so I drove to Muscat in it after I had run it in, great road, I hope those speed cameras don't work !!

How is the Milltek exhaust, worth getting ??

I know Toyo are doing the Golf GTI series at the Autodrome, I'm hoping we'll see some good mods from that? !

hello sledgod... im very sorry for your misfortune, and hope that your GTI will be fixed properly soon:smile:..

I think that your car has some MAJOR factory defect.. did you try to ask alnaboodah for a new GTI? man if i was in your place i would surely try my luck.

LoL! those speed cameras actually do work.... but not all of them. but i dont think that your ticket will be reported to the UAE(not much cooperation between Oman police & UAE police).

I once hit 240 in the AlAin-AbuDhabi highway, now thats a highway! UAE roads are alot better than ours in general.

Any exhaust system from a repeutable company will give you good power gains so yes i think it is worth getting an exhaust system, not only the milltek one, but other brands like supersprint & fox which are available in the UAE through dealers.

Dubai autodrome? i cant wait to go there... when will this event happen? I so hope that there will be a decent collection of mods there!

BTW, whats the most common form of the GTI, 3 or 5 door?

yes it was a major fault but nowhere else in the world have they had a similar failure so i guess its a one off.

I never thought of asking for a new one ? I'll try it tomorrow, so far they have offered me the first service free and 10 laps in the race GTI round the dubai autodrome so we'll see.

is the official site, the website is not updated that often but through this i recommend you look at the driving school section and get yourself on the mailing list.

The driving school is fantastic, they have Audi 3 with the same 2.0 FSI turbo then Audi A4 and Subaru Impreza. Once in a while they have a whole day dedicated but crazily they do it on a Thursday instead of a Friday.

anyhow I did it last October in the Impreza and although you don't get a lot of time it makes a huge difference to how I drive on the road and you cannot beat the experience of driving a 350bhp Impreza around.

the GTI race series is sponsored by Toyo tyres and there are a couple of specialised garages now in Dubai but Naboodah have the monopoly at the moment. the deal is that the cars are 100% standard apart from the clutch and road legal but have the interior stripped out and a rollcage. They are not doing mods on the engine and exhaust but maybe we might be able to get a deal on decent brakes or something, if i can find any special deals i'll stick them on the website.

Cost for the GTI cup is AED140000 for the car (6 speed manual) and further AED18000 for entry to the race series. I think its 5 race days from Feb to May ??

Most of the GTIs here are 5 door, I think that Nabooda just gets given a variety of cars every 2 months and 70% are the 5 door.

back to the speed cameras in Oman, I began to slow down for them but everyone was overtaking me at 180kmh including Elantras on lowered supsension and the odd Corolla that drove more like a supra, so i gave up in the end and just kept below 200kmh !!!

I've never been on the Al Ain to Abu Dhabi road yet, I have heard its awesome but there some excellent roads also Ras al Khaimah to Sharjah, thats a 240kmh road easy and the road from Sharjah to Al Dhaid to Dibba to Fujairah is probably the best and fastest road i have ever been on. What I also love about UAE is that wherever i am and decide to go above 200kmh there is always an Emirati in a Lexus or Mercedes or whatever who joins in for the fun of it too....fantastic !

ps welcome daigo, whats the latest mods in japan for the Golf?

Thx, about the latest mods... I think our market is in research/development equipments. Golf GTI has been released only for 6months, VW Japan still have many backorders until July. One dealership told me that they have waiting lists for 70 GTIs to clear their order.

Maybe late this year or early next year we'll have GTI mods getting popular, so we have to wait till then.

Btw I changed exhaust(cat back). Its a local custom race shop made. Very good quality and has great performance. 5 friends using this manufacturer including me. I choose 2 tip exhaust, but this Quad system is awesome!!:headbang:

Daigo - Are there many VW modders over there in Japan? I've always loved the Japanese car scene and Japan in general, wish I could live there even!

Im interested to see what the Japanese tuners can come up with for the MKV GTI

I owned Passat for 4years, and just changed my ride this Feb. so I really donno the Golf MkV trend here in Japan.

I'm also interested in Aussie tuners mod their VWs. Is there any unique page that I can enjoy?

Im still very new to the VW scene since my previous cars were always Japanese cars ie. (I miss my S14 Silvia)

For forums, I've only been visiting this site and the Australian section of VWVortex - http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=137

As for Australian based tuners try these:

http://www.inmotive.com.au/
http://www.qsz.com.au/
http://www.europeanautotech.com.au/
http://www.euroauto.com.au/

I'll be finally picking up my car tomorrow after 8months of waiting so I can finally call myself an MK5 owner :)

Interesting, thanx sledgod:smile:

about the speed cameras. the local people know which area has its radars on, so i just floor it when i see them like that, just as you did. about that corolla, was it really powerful or was the driver insane?

thanx for the tips on those roads, i'll surely check them out sometime:thumbup: , and i fully agree with you on the emaratis, they certainly like to join the fun.
