So I pulled all of the fuses to inspect and none of them look blown. There is no diagram in this car showing which fuse goes to what so that sucks.

Also the lights on chime randomly stopped working and I left my lights on for about 10 minutes. Luckily the car started back up.
This thing is showing all the signs of having electrical gremlins that I don't want to deal with. Considering ditching it and buying something a bit more reliable.

For the window, I would check your door harness for broken wires and check to make sure you don't have hella corrosion at the module. As far as the fuses, did you just look at them or did you use a test light or something to verify you have power on both sides of the fuse? With all the shenanigans going on it sounds ALMOST like a series of shorted wires

As far as the wires being corroded, I'll have to find some time to pull the door panels and inspect the wiring.

Got a chance to pull the multimeter out and find out where the blown fuse was for the 12v socket. Replaced the fuse and all is well in the world again.
Cool story I know.

Well, monthly update: My car's dash is now a christmas tree in true VW fashion. The ABS is still broken, not exactly sure what's wrong but the brakes feel fine... guessing the abs module is shot.
And I have a new problem now, the power steering assist stopped working and that caused another light. The car feels weird to drive now and the steering input sucks. Not sure where to even begin really other than lighting a match and setting it on fire.

If the ABS module goes, the electronically-assisted steering will shut off.

They both happened at different times though, the abs module went first and the steering 3 months later

So I did some research on this problem Jay, first thing to check is your fuses. There's 2 fuses associated with the steering rack that are somewhat common to go, could be a simple issue. As for the ABS module, highly unlikely the module itself failed since you're not an 09. There's a chance you could get the module reprogrammed at the dealership and fix that issue.
When you come over tomorrow bring your vagcom and let's see what the actual codes are.

I ended up finding a 2001 Civic for basically free with a bad trans, swapped in a low mileage trans and been driving it to work for 6 years / 60,000 miles trouble free. I know we like to talk shit about Civics in the VW scene, but damn are they hard to beat for cheap reliable transportation.
