Hey guys. Had an RCD510 retrofitted but dealer unable to code for car. As a result system is distorting and no fader control as it doesn't "see" the GTi amp.
Anyone who knows how to do this (i have the coding page from wiki.ross-tech) and is willing to help please get in contact...

Thanks.

I'm in Chatswood. Will be home later this arvo.
Alternatively there will be quite a few people at the dyno day down south tomorrow. I should be there in the morning.
Give me a PM if needed and we can try to meet up.

Hey guys...an update.
Thanks to member funny, radio now working and sounding properly. Also gained some extra options in the setup menu after proper coding.

Thanks to funny...you are a real gentleman and we will undoubtedly meet up again!

Hi Gti_mk5. Firstly the fader has come back and I don't need a factory reset everytime I start the car to get it back. The sound is better too. Before the sound would distort even at 1/3 volume...now I can go up to 2/3 before I stop cause it's too loud for me. Presumably this is because the RCD510 now operates only as a premamp and outputs a low-level signal to the GTI amp.
As far as options are concerned: My Media-In is no longer greyed out, and in the media options page under Setup I can now enable Aux-IN, bluetooth audio and have a preamp level for the aux-in as well. Hope this helps.

Yo Funny, any chance you could do a write up on how to fix up the radio? Sounds like I need to have this done also.

Cheers

stedes had the relevant page from the ross-tech wiki site.
Basically just used the long coding in the RADIO module and ticked the relevant boxes depending on what you have installed. From memory the main box to tick is the VW sound system (i.e. amp) is installed, and no passive speakers.
The rest depends on what media connectors you have.

For the RCD-510 here are the options which (should) exist in the long coding for the radio (in bold options enabled for my car which has RCD-510 and MDI):

Radio Configuration

-AUX-IN Access restricted
-CD-Changer/iPod/USB Connection Monitoring active
-AUX-IN Connection Monitoring active
-Parking Aid installed
-Shortpress Steering Wheel Buttons installed
-Telephone OR Telephone Preparation (CAN) installed
-Back-Up Camera installed

Sound System Correction

-Sound System not installed
-Volkswagen Sound System (DDP DSP)
-Skoda Soundsystem (CAN DSP)
-Dynaudio Sound System (DDP DSP)
-Volkswagen Sound System (BAP DSP)
-Dynaudio Sound System (BAP DSP)

Speaker Channels

-Sound System (active Speakers)
-2 Speaker Channels (2 passive Front Speakers)
-4 Speaker Channels (2 passive Speakers each Front and Rear)

Treble Speaker Monitoring

-Treble Speaker Monitoring deactivated (Sound System)
-Treble Speaker Monitoring for Front Speakers active
-Treble Speaker Monitoring for Rear Speakers active
-Treble Speaker Monitoring for Front & Rear Speakers active

PM me if you need anymore info. And use the link above to find your radio if it's a different model than yours.

sorry to dig up an older thread, but i just installed an RCD510 in my 05 TDi,
and i have a problem....

the radio went in ok, and works great, but even with the radio off, i get a 1.8A
power drain on the battery.
with the help of an auto electrician friend, we managed to bodge a relay that stops the drain, but this has downsides too.

every time i turn the ignition off, the radio forgets the tone and bass settings, it forgets the SD card scan,
and also it does a scan of all the cd trays everytime the car is started.

i am trying to find a propper solution.
is there a setting that can be changed with VCDS ?
some people have said i need to upgrade the gateway ?

the RCD510 is from a UK spec 09 Passat CC.
other than the power drain, it works in every respect.
even the wheel buttons work, it sounds great too.

i just want to get it to talk to the gateway properly.

any ideas ?

Jason.

Can help with the VAGCOM but only if you already have the info...
Would be interesting to see if codes have come up, but the current draw isn't good.
Maybe something's up with wiring?
I do recall seeing somewhere on here someone else mentioning that retrofit of radios into 05 models have issues. Don't remember where bouts though - might take a good long search to find it. Maybe that's what it is?

Why you didn't enable "-AUX-IN Connection Monitoring active" option?

When you enable iPod Monitoring everthing work good? I tried it and get audio oscilation.
