Hi,

So i'm looking to but a 2008 gti and was just wondering about some common problems. I am buying a manual so don't need to worry about the DSG problems. But would just like to know what to look out for as it will be my first gti and lets be honest im pretty excited and can easily overlook things.

Thanks in advance.

Its the TSI Model.

The guy who im buying off of has already replaced the coilpacks with better ones.

And it has just had its major service done.

I believe the main things on the TSI are the timing chain tensioner and PCV system.

Common issues with Gen 1 TSI.
-water pump (fails)
-HPFP (fails)
-injectors (stick/fail)
-intake manifold (cracks/fails)
-timing chain tensioner (grenades motor)
-timing cover gaskets (fail and leak oil)
-pcv (blows rear main seal)
-AC (almost all MKV's have crap/early failure)

Don't let this all scare you, plenty of us out there running these motors/cars. The TSI is a maintenence heavy motor IMO, if you want it to last and run right you have to stay on top of them. Unlike the FSI, check cam follower, keep oil level up, done.

I've got plenty of guys in my car Club with 100k + on their TSI, good motor if you keep up on it. Plenty of info out there, check my daily build thread for some decent info.

I got an 08 but its FSI. All I've replaced is tstat, coilpacks, and just picked up a catch can for the PCV fix.
