Anti-theft suggestions

What does one need in order to deter car thieves who only wish to push the GTI few blocks to steal its wheels? I only ask because my girlfriend's 2013 Ford Escape was stolen in such a matter. So how does one protect the GTI?

Old school of using the club, gearshift lock?

Escape was stolen in a Detroit neighborhood. These guys unlocked the car without triggering the alarm, busted the shifting mechanism and threw the shifter into neutral. They proceeded to roll the car backwards (engine was never started) from the driveway onto the street. Once on the street, they somehow managed to turn the steering wheel to rotate the car facing the street. Then another vehicle proceeded to ram and push the Escape several blocks down where then these cats took off the rims. Car was left on its belly, left rear window busted. How the hell is it possible to turn a steering wheel of a shut off car? Gain entry without the alarm going off? To shift in into neutral.

Also, when I called Ford to find out if they can track the car through its navigation/MyFord Touch, they said they have no tracking capabilities. That is a bit odd. Anyway...we found the thing, but wheels gone, undercarriage damaged, busted window, center console and whatever other damage is yet to be discovered by the mechanics.

Sounds like there wasn't much anyone/anything could do to stop them. Those thugs were determined to get those wheels. All you can do is take preventive measures that make it more difficult for the thieves (locking doors, alarm, wheel locks etc). Most thefts are crimes of opportunity.

Just make it look like the other Detroit POS. seriously nothing you can do, thieves know their limits but a pro can bypass any system if they practiced enough. Best suggestion cross your fingers no one messes with it

Impossible to stop someone. The steering wheel lock and shifter lock break pretty easily. And wheel locks can be ground off or cut off or broken off by the time they jack up the car. Don't rock nice wheels in a bad neighborhood.

The club is useless as steering wheels are easily bent. If someone is bound and determined, there is almost nothing you can do.

Aftermarket 2-way alarm with level sensor, impact sensor, and glass break sensor. May as well throw in a backup battery too in case they immediately cut the power. Ought to give you enough warning to find your blunt object of choice and crack some skulls.
