Suspension suggestions for Winter!

I'm really wanting to lower my car from its tall ride height. It's way too high when I park in my dorm lot and am one of the highest cars. My problem is that the winters around here are bad and I need suggestions from people who have lowered their cars and drive in winter conditions.

What is the min. amount of clearance you would suggest? I am debating on either the euro-springs or the HR sports, the others are just too low for around here, plus there are massive speed bumps on campus which all the lowered POS' on campus bottom out on. Any suggestions for springs or new suspension would really help me out as I'm planning on doing this before summer.

Is there an adjustable suspension for the MKV yet? I know one of my friends was talking about getting it but I ignored him since I thought sports would be fine. I'll post a pic of the clearance I get w/ my GTI in the snow and the snow that gets stuck underneath during my commute tomorrow.

If you're going to lower it, an 1.4" spring such as neuspeed or H&R wont really inhibit your driving. We had 8 inches here in Cincinnati last week, and my friend's slammed MKIV drove fine. although my car isn't lowered yet, my tC was and it drove fine in every winter here too. Luckily the MKV sits like a small minivan so you dont have to worry about high speed bumps or anything like that, unless you put on coil overs or something more than a 2"+ drop.

I think I'm going to get the Euro springs, it'll have that nice how-it's-supposed-to-look look. From there I'll decide on adjustable suspension or a lower drop + a winter beater. I know I'm just sick of the SUV.

GT30 is to much fun. when your car can get 30mpg with it, but you only manage about 20, its too much fun.

Still up in the air on selling it. runs perfect but needs some minor body work.

Im in a similiar situation to you (op), right now im strongly conseridering Vogtland 35mm so i never have to worry about rubbing when i load the car up with people/things and have plenty of ground clearance for winter. The 35mm's are similar drop to the H&R sports.

Awesome thread. I was wondering about dropped cars versus driving in snow. Glad to know I've still got some options . . . once I get my GTI . . .

I run Neuspeed sports year round, I use Hanook IceBear w300's all around though for tires.

Other than hearing snow hitting my floorpan when its "blizzardy" out its fine.

I'm probably going to do FK Coils this winter though.. get a little more out of the car in the summer.
