Hi guys, saved up and bought my first car a few months ago and got an 07 GTI. The entire car is stock and I would like to make it louder but dont have the money for new exhaust. I am considering a muffler delete but I am just not sure if it is going to sound like trash or not. Should I do it?:help:

Do not delete the muffler, the drone on the highway and cruising speeds will drive you nuts. Deleting the resonator however I think sounds great. Here are 2 videos of my car (I have a 3" downpipe so it is louder) with the resonator deleted.

Interesting. I thought it was the other way around and people complained about more drone from deleting the resonator since I thought that was its job. I haven't done either, so I have no real idea haha.

I've tried both on my car, and deleting the resonator is the way to go. Don't get me wrong, it definitely drones on the highway with the resonator delete. I think my 42dd turbo of back drones worse than having the stock catback with a resonator delete. Just my $.02

I mean, if the OP is really up in the air about it, try the resonator first. That delete should be much cheaper since they're just cutting and putting a straight pipe in. No tips involved, etc.

I did a reso-delete on my oem exhaust before I did more serious mods. I liked it, although it wasn't great...only differently louder, and it wasn't annoying. If looking for a cheap and easy volume booster...the reso-delete is the way to go. If you cut out the muffler...you need to re-hang the new pipe and you will have no tips unless you recycle the oem tips or buy new ones. Either way...if you want tips you will need to have more work done just to attach them. Having a new straight pipe cat back might end up being less costly to have made.

I deleted both and basically have a 3" straight pipe from the down pipe back, it sounds orgasmic

With the stock downpipe, a muffler delete will NOT drone and sounded pretty good (for what it was) IMO

With a aftermarket downpipe, it gets a lot louder and will drone though

These are some old videos from when I had my MK5, but will give you a good idea:
