Did you check for oil in the spark plugs? Armchair mechanic guess would be valve cover gasket. Also might worth checking/replacing the PCV.

I've heard this can be due to carbon build-up on the valves. I was able to make my P0302 code go away by running the car hard at a local track day... YMMV.

Looks pretty excessive to me. Mine looked better at 60k miles. I would definitely replace the valve cover gasket.
