My DaiLy_ProJecT Golf MKV GT

Hello everyone.

My name is Michael and I am from Greece. Some of you may have seen my main project over the net, here and there, an Audi A4, till lately with a 1,8T engine, making 700hp more or less, then converted into an OEM RS4 body, and currently undergoing a 2JZ swap. Yes, you read it correctly.

Some pics of its story, in case you like it too.

However, this thread is about my daily drive. It is a Golf MK5 in anthracite grey bought sometime ago and always in the family. I had it in the past for track use, however when I took over my Audi, I let this one stay in the family, although I always liked it for me. Just bought a new A3 TDI some days ago, so this one, had to come back to my hands and become my daily commuter.

Here are some photos taken of it. I think you will like what I will do with it.

Started like this.

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps2a5ef72a.jpg

A lot of dirt on the car and non care signs by my father

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps4dcdd1b5.jpg

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...pse1bf3650.jpg

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps040af6aa.jpg

So I gave it some TLC to change that.

Started by debadging it for a clear rear end.

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps13ff252a.jpg

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...psefbc4124.jpg

Then a small detail..from this

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...psc5fd4535.jpg

To this

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps7c9aabf3.jpg

Removing unnecessary weight

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps7e00b1cf.jpg

And after a detail session with the known procedures, car got some of its old dignity back.

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...psc8683b30.jpg

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps32cc5da1.jpg

RS4 replicas, soon to be replaced

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps0a85d5ad.jpg

Some scratches and swirls under the Golf and Gt logo.

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps63146f6f.jpg

Nothing my sweet Kestrel can cope with - some DA love with 3M Extra Fine Compound

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...psfa8b69a3.jpg

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...psf771b3be.jpg

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...psa7553141.jpg

Perfect!

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps4b8848e1.jpg

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...psb67ded40.jpg

Then it was time to do something I had also done in the past - de-wipering the rear end

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k8...ps912c8b25.jpg

Now we are getting somewhere

Some more info about the car.

It is running
-ECU Software Upgrade for some time now, had made almost 230hp back in time
-63mm Catback Exhaust
-Audi S3 8p FMIC InterCooler
It also had a Cold Air Intake in the past, however it is now on stock air box. We shall see if I will do it again.

Exterior-wise the car has had some changes too
-CARACTERE rear wing
-Debadged
-Black emblems and mirrors
-OEM GTI Side Skirts
-OEM GTI rear valence
-Parktronic system
-Llumar Window Tint
-FK Headlights with Xenon fitted in main and dipped beam

Interior wise, pretty much stock with all the extras it came with, except for some details like carbon fiber knob, alcantara shift boot, HERTZ 3-way speaker set. In pretty good shape too, except for some defects from daily use while i didnt have it. All will be fixed though.

mgpdoc 10-20-2013 04:58 PM

Wasted no time, and it was time to fit my glossy black OZ Ultraleggeras in 8x18 ET45 fitment. After all, these wheels were initially bought for this Golf :)

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psfae8d12e.jpg

Yeap, much better now

And a shot of its lovely interior

Cheers :D

MKVDave 10-20-2013 05:20 PM

Holy fuck, that A4..

mgpdoc 10-20-2013 05:24 PM

I thought you might like a shot of the engine bay which I neglected posting.

Here it is.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...46421835_n.jpg

Cheers guys :)

razr 10-20-2013 05:52 PM

Wow. amazing. And a 2jz into an a4! I can't wait to see that. Your golf is also great looking.

mgpdoc 10-20-2013 05:59 PM

Thank you sir.

I will keep it to the golf in here. Because if I start talking about the Audi, there will be no ending. :)

For instance I ordered some TiLLett's for it, and looking for a 2JZ Gearbox, the V160 or V161 6-speed manual from Getrag, and I am kinda stuck at that point.

I could make a build thread of it in here too. We shall see .

Cheers

mgpdoc 10-20-2013 06:01 PM

So I needed to change some little things here and there, so lost no time, and started ordering things.

Here are some of those

New Grilles for the front, went OEM and opted the GTI MKV ones like in the past

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps0eb4e5c8.jpg

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps52211c06.jpg

Ordered some new indicators, cause one of them was hurt

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps043b14f9.jpg

And also ordered a new Light switch :D

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps877cebbb.jpg

Cheers

Dutchy 10-20-2013 06:11 PM

I love the international builds, always cool to see what European market MKVs end up looking like. You guys over the pond always luck out with your oem color options too... Anyways, judging from the quality of that RS4 build, we can only expect great things for this too!

mgpdoc 10-20-2013 06:18 PM

Cheers, I will do my best and hope you like it too :)
This project has already moved on, into higher quality levels, but I will show them to you little by little to not bore you.

Cheers

Mike

Damn. That A4 :eyebulge:

Looks like you are gonna make the Golf just as awesome in its own way but that A4 is one amazing ride. Keep up the good work.

whitekryptonite 10-20-2013 10:56 PM

Malaka.

mgpdoc 10-21-2013 07:39 AM

Here is some more work I did on the car yesterday evening.

I had ordered some things from the stealership, which arrived. They were mostly new door handles, electrical window switches and a tailgate trim. Let's see how it went.

Heavily scratched door handle - not by me of course

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps4997671d.jpg

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...pseeee9cb2.jpg

This could not stay like this as you can tell

Started removing the door card

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps04deba5b.jpg

Wont be staying in the car

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psa36095ed.jpg

Fresh stuff

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps03b91a78.jpg

Yeap, that's more like it

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psd235a6f7.jpg

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psb3ca8da3.jpg

And same goes for passenger side door handles and switch

Before - possibly from some kind of deodorant :censored:

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psc7396f62.jpg

During

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps3e7c58e9.jpg

And afterwards, all in place

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps22132c8a.jpg

I also changed this piece, which was not cheap at all - but let the interior down a bit, so had to be done

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps4f617b57.jpg

oem GTI / .:R32 Black piece

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps8667ec3e.jpg

And lastly, wheels needed to be smartened up a bit . . .

So, from this

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps6ad2eff9.jpg

I found my Carbon Fiber OZ caps, and also bought some OEM Vag Wheel Bolt caps, and finished it off like this

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps39217d8c.jpg

Yes, much better, dont you think

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps149bb0b9.jpg

Cheers everyone.

razr 10-21-2013 09:03 AM

I really like the ultraleggeras

mgpdoc 10-21-2013 09:08 AM

Got one of these in black

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps4e6dab76.jpg

which is normally for carrying helmets, but can be used in the trunk of an everyday car, for transporting various things, like tools, umbrellas, i-pads, jackets, and it has anti-slip material so as to not move when driving.
Very clean, totally suggest it.

mgpdoc 10-21-2013 09:46 AM

So time for some more maintenance work today.

First of all let me show you the SPARCO helmet box I was talking about.

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psfdaa0b68.jpg

Very clean and tidy - love it.

Now, an issue I noticed is that the left side of the speakers wasnt heard as well as the right one. So off went the door card again with no second thoughts to find out what was happening

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps33799792.jpg

HERTZ unit revealed

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps82c1cf7a.jpg

And also some searching behind the head-unit, reveilled a bad connection from the past

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse3f5ae63.jpg

All done,, re-installed, and ready for our next case to solve - Reverse light wouldn't go on, when reversing, and what is more, my park-tronic system was not working

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps1b4387ed.jpg

Changed the bulb, checked the park-tronic wiring for cuts, even changed it to be sure, bought a new OEM reverse-light switch, installed it - yet nothing. So it was time to go around the car to find out where the bad connection was . . .

No bad connection here

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psdbb61a0f.jpg

No bad fuse

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps8498646d.jpg

Nothing on the passenger side too

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps2bae0a86.jpg

And, what do you know, we have a winner

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psca343f1b.jpg

OEM wiring gone bad through time. Made a new perfect connection and wrapped everything with my favorite Tesa fabric tape so as to be sure in the future.

What do you know . . .

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...pscd2be10c.jpg

It works.

More to come guys - Cheers :)

joten 10-21-2013 09:53 AM

Very nicely done mr. :)

So went to the stealership for some more shopping today, second time I am buying this thing - well worth the money for its oem quality though -nothing cheap here

Here it is

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psaa94d91d.jpg

Along with the VW Badge

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps88ad3ab0.jpg

Going artistic

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps9ffd5678.jpg

Carefully removed the GTI badge so as to modify it

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps0d1f330e.jpg

As well as the red stripe

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps8edafc09.jpg

Removed the "I" easily with the heat gun, almost no glue residue left

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps29f808d6.jpg

I then prepped the parts that were to be painted, the VW badge, the GT one, and the stripe

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps6acfce2f.jpg

Audi approved the whole procedure

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse5deca8b.jpg

A hint of the colour I went with
http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps2be897ac.jpg

Time to remove this grille

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps56be1f7a.jpg

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psf6a815f8.jpg

Cleaned the inner bumper part

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...psb2b06ba3.jpg

Stripe installed on the grille - looking good

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps94e1fdf1.jpg

Badge modified too

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps3cc7c0a8.jpg

let's see how it came out

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps16350414.jpg

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse9878dae.jpg

Yummy, looks like a win to me

http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps237e2317.jpg

Cheers :D :D :D
