So, dumb question, are these even worth if the stage 1 / OEM applications...? Wouldn’t you want to upgrade the spark plug to a higher heat range too?

The APR/MSD coils are pretty much the same price as OEM, plus they claim to make 10% more spark. They run about 40 a piece which is what OEM goes for generally. APR can generally be found cheaper than the MSD branded ones, but they are the same coil.

If you're looking for cheaper coils, you can find them - there just isn't much info on them. A few I was looking at before getting the Blue APR coils:
Red stock replacements:
https://www.uspmotorsports.com/Lage...Ignition-Red-Coil-Pack-For-VW-Audi-Gen-3.html - x4 = $86.36 with free shipping.
https://www.urotuning.com/products/...tion-coilpack-set-of-4?variant=30309033050167 -x4 = $115 with free shipping.
RS3 Eldor replacement:
https://www.urotuning.com/products/...en3-1-8t-2-0t-set-of-4?variant=32102168100919 - x4 = $95 with free shipping.

Edit: As for spark plugs and heat range, depends on mods and if you're running an E blend. Most are good with stock, or 1 stage colder per their tuner recommendations.

If your coils are functioning properly it's a waste of money. And you would stay the stock heat range plugs.
