Been hearing some gear noise/ whine around 3k RPMS in 2nd and 3rd gear. Its very faint and seems to increase as i accelerate. Is this normal for the transmission? I am usually listening to the radio and so i have only paid attention to the sound a few times.

My 2008 GTI with DSG also has a whine in 2nd/ 3rd gears above ~3000rpm. It's inconsistent though - usually I only hear it when I down shift into a slow corner then give it a bootful. The pitch appears related to engine speed, so I was wondering if it's the ancillary belt on the engine. It's not noticable in normal commuting, so I am in two minds whether to leave until the next service or book in to have it looked at.

My DSG has whined since day 1 in 1st and 2nd gear below 3000rpm. It became much louder when adding my dogbone mount and I expect it to become even louder when I get the other two engine mounts added.
I wouldnt say it is anything to be concerned about. I have seen a lot of DSGs whine.

my car whines when it's in the lower rpm range, i can hear it with the radio off, and it's from 2-almost 3k rpm range , when i stop accelerating i can also hear it spin down when it's close to about 2.1-2.3 k before the dsg downshifts into next gear then i don't hear it after that
i usually hear it more when the engines cold
but oddly enough i never noticed it until i broke about 30k

Mine sounds more like a dogbox, just not anywhere near as loud. It has the same "type" of whine as in this video. But as I said, I only hear it in 1st and 2nd below 3k rpm usually when im pulling out of my neighborhood or coming through a parking garage.

I hear the same whine only when I first start up the car and drive until it warms up.
After the car warms up, I don't hear it or it's reduced enough in volume that I don't notice it.

It's probably just the rube golberg device that we call a transmission. It has a bazillion gears all meshing together at any time. It's bound to make some noise. Mine makes a whine in 1st and second gears at low speeds. Any faster than that and I can't hear it over the wind/road noise.
