TPMS compatibility Mk5 <---> Mk6

Getting some conflicting info on this. Just trying to make sure before I get into some $$.

Would TPMS that came off a 2013 Mk6 GTI work on a 2008 Mk5 GTI? If so, what would need to be done in terms of setup?

Is it just a matter of plug and play? Mount tires and if no lights come on, all is well? In which case, deflate one of the tires and see if that lights a light?

Am I missing anything?

2013 doesn't have TPMS sensors, only the ABS monitoring. A 2010 set would work.

So it seems like we have the direct TPMS and Mk6's have the inderect TPMS. There goes that idea.

So, assuming for a moment that new TPMS sensors were compatible. What sort of setup would need to be done in order to marry a new sensor to the car?

On my wife's Nissan. New TPMS had to be added by dealer. So I was told. Needless to say, another expense as opposed to just plug and play.
