You shouldn't rub at all. I know there's a ton of GTI's out there running that size tire with an 8 or 8.5" wide rim and ~1" drop, and I think they're fine. A ~1" drop on a 2006/early 2007 GTI is about the same as the 2008 R32's factory drop. I think the R32 is actually slightly higher.

The offset of the rim and the width also are huge factors with rubbing. I would say don't go any lower than an offset of 45mm (ET45).

A lot of Audi's have 35mm offsets, and that will cause your rims and tires to stick out past the fenders depending on width. You could always roll the fenders or run a narrower tire if you ever plan on getting lowered.

And for what it's worth, my 18x8 ET45 with a 225/40/18 tire will rub on the little plastic tab when I'm taking 80-90 degree turns at over 25-30mph. Otherwise, I don't rub at all. Mine is ~2" lower in the front, and with the offset and width, the rim is pretty flush with the fender.

I hope that helps a little.:w00t:

The R32 ground clearance is 3.7" with the OE setup. One should "theoretically" not deviate from the OE offset of 52mm by more that 5mm +/- per the tire/wheel specialists, and attempt to match the OE rolling diameter of 25.1".
