I’ve had some issues with the car recently so it’s had everything in the engine looked over and checked. When I pulled off the upper timing cover there is quite a bit of play on the intake side of the chain. I scanned with an OBDeleven and cam adjustment is sitting right around 4°

My question would be is it safe to get to a shop (about a 20 minute drive) to get the timing chain redone as well as does volkswagen do timing chain service?

Yes...it should be safe. VW has an unpublished, so to speak, spec of ±5°...and VW dealer shops do timing chain and tensioner replacements.
