Tail Lights are working Intermittently

Hey I’m new here. I just bought a 2006 mkv gti and I seem to be having a problem with the tail lights. when I first bought the car one of the driver side bulbs was out. So I assumed it was just a bad bulb. After changing it the whole light stopped working. After a few days both lights came back on and then went back out. Now one of the bulbs is on a the moment can anyone help me with what’s going on with the light?

One possibility is your wiring loom. The insulation is notorious for degrading.
I had to replace mine, PITA job, and not cheap.
If you can remove the tail light start looking at the loom there, follow it back a bit underneath the plastic trim, the trim pops off with a bit of gentle persuasion.
