This is the 3rd time my 2008 MKV GTI has had a rough idle, the first time it was a vacuum leak, 2nd time it was caused by other issues and i ended up replacing my whole front end, and now i’m not sure what it could be. I have new spark plugs, brand new vacuum lines, what could it be? anyone think it’s carbon build up? or should i get new injectors? not sure at this point, i’m just really frustrated with how often i’ve run into this with my GTI

Rough idle can be caused by a number of things gone wrong.
PCV fail
PCV tubing has a crack or is leaking where connected
Brake Booster tubing is cracked or leaks where connected
Plastic intake manifold; cracked/melted/runner-flap linkage not sealed/or leaks along a seam
Bad seal on the oil filler cap or the dipstick
Bad seal on the IAT sensor mounted to the intake manifold
Injector/s leaking
...and I am pretty sure there are more. If it is excessive carbon build-up on the intake valves, you should get them cleaned. If left unattended to, combustion can enter the intake manifold and melt it.

i vote for carbon build up. I had a rough idle, check engine lights, and misfires and swore I was in for it - bad injectors, coils, the worst possible problem, etc... it was literally just carbon build up I couldn't believe it.
