Road Side Assistance

I was looking in my GTI's manual and it had a brochure for road side assistance. I used it once and I don't remember if I paid anything for the service as I just needed a jump start. I probably did pay something.

Anyway, I was wondering what is a good Road side assistance service cost?
I hear some people go through their insurance like AllState or they become members of AAA.

I use AAA now, but I had a situation where I was under warranty and my dual-mass flywheel failed and the car had to be towed to the dealer. I was told by the dealer that the tow would be reimbursed to me since it was warranty work.

I sent in the receipts and all that and the claim came back to me denied because I did not personally contact Roadside Assistance prior to being towed.

Lesson learned to read the rules and fine print.
