Rear hatch struts

So this just happened...



The little ball joint nipple literally pulled out of the fitting. It must have been working it's way out for a while but I never noticed it. It definitely enlarged the hole to the point where it can't be secured again. Anyone deal with this before? If I can't get secure the nipple somehow is there a different strut strong enough to hold the hatch open with just one side in place?

Damn, I just had the same thing happen to me. Have you came up with any solutions. I was planning this weekend to see if there was access from the interior & attaching a washer/nut on it.

I saw a DIY somewhere. Guy bent the end of a coat hanger into a loop to hold a nut, and snaked it around to the hole.
