Rear door lock not working properly ?

Hi all,

The rear near side door of my 2004 Golf 1.6 FSI is having issues. When I use the fob to unlock the car I cannot open the rear door from the outside, I have to reach in and use the interior handle. Once opened in this manner the outside handle works fine. Then when I lock the car it locks ok.

I have read a couple of posts that suggest it’s the lock module, but would this lock and not unlock? Can they partially fail?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

I had this exact problem about a month ago. It would lock with the fob but not unlock although I could reach inside and open it with the handle. Eventually the door stopped locking completely. I've got this on my to-do list:
