This is an awesome build thread, cant believe I haven't come across this till now lol.

Love the seats, and those darkened tails did wonders for the looks, especially with the black rims! The ammount of power you are squeezing oh of that thing is impressive! Very good job OP, keep em coming!

That is a beast amount of power coming out of the tinny 1.4 :eyebulge:

I'm debating the idea of trading-in the GTI for a '13 Ibiza FR, it only has 150 BHP but this thread inspires me to get it at least even with the 2.0T

BTW: you're more versed in the platform than any of us here, you think the wheel with paddles can be retrofited to an FR? it doesn't come with them here in Mexico
If you decide to trade it make sure it's one with the newer CTHE engines not with a CAVE one. The CAVE one's were notorious for burning oil, problem now solved with the CTHE engine. Although mine's a CAVE one I'm one of the few lucky ones without problems but better not risk it if you have the choice.
You can see the engine's code by looking on the passenger's side of the block it's on a sticker.

For the steering wheel I have no idea. In theory it's possible. Maybe ask it on seatcupra.net forums, British site with tons of ibizas, someone might know. Weird though that the fr's there come without paddles!!

I went for a custom tune, as I'd said, Overload Performance, gaining about 35bhp, hitting the 300 mark BUT the car started suffering from mid to high rpm misfires due to soft valve springs. So we detuned the car to 1 bar redline which is my safe line for misfires, waiting for the stiffer valve springs made by Supertech so I can run higher boost (1.4 bar redline).

Meanwhile I decided to spruce up my engine bay and fitted custom carbon ram air type intake, carbon heat shield and a bigger pipercross filter (C0177). We also fitted the exhaust check valve back to its original place on the intake.

The mod was done by the same shop that tunes my car together with Defsta Carbon. Everything was done from scratch, making a mould for every part. They now offer the whole carbon intake package ready for the ibiza cupra dsg that have the battery in the engine bay.
I also changed my coils with the uprated by BERU.

I'm at 3 days of selling the GTI or trading for a '12 Jetta.
Unfortunately no Ibiza for me since I now need a bigger vehicle, but your car makes me want to get into a argument with the (almost) Wife about buying an Ibiza anyway

Sad to hear on the missfires, but I guess that when the new valve springs come in, they can pour some extra magic in the engine while is open

Hahaha I don't know... maybe it's better to listen to the future Mrs.!
Thanks!

Something I forgot to write about, I also have a custom Overload DSG tune and it's fantastic!
Launch control rocks (7speed DSG comes without LC), the car launches so hard, it shifts the moment you hit the paddle, as it needed around 200rpm before until the actual shift, it shifts 2 times faster. :eyebulge:

We need to do a few tweaks so it shifts into 2nd gear automatically because right now it revs till redline and doesn't shift until it finds some grip.

It's been a while since my last update and as the project will be complete in a few days I decided to sum up all the mods and all the problems I had to face because hitting 300+bhp isn't a walk in the park.

Let me remind you that my last update was about the misfires I was having especially in cold weather and on high boost, so my tuner had written a really light file where I could go easily to 150kmh but then my dashboard was lighting up like a Xmas tree.

So since I had become best buds with the check engine light and we had figured out that the misfires were caused by the weak exhaust valve springs I decided to change them. Since we couldn't find any springs from Supertech we went for the uprated stiffer oem valve springs that all the latest '12 and on 1.4 tsi's have, ETKA code 036109623AC (in case anyone wants to change them), which are color coded in red and not green as I'd read in another forum. They're much stiffer than what I had, so much that you can feel it in your hands.
The project was carried out by Derekidis Service, where he used a special tool that compresses the cylinder so that the valves won't drop inside (sorry I can't describe it any better). It took him 4 days as he works alone. Total cost including labor and an oil change less than 500 euros.

Some pics from the whole valve springs process (I'll post some with the tool later):

So the misfires are gone but when we were logging the car on the 10th run it started to whistle/whine like it had a vacuum leak, after 4000rpm, and it wasn't holding boost. Back to the shop, the mechanic inspected all the hoses for leaks but they were ok, so we checked the turbo too and it had some shaft play, unusual for the little time that I had it. So the turbo was sent to the turbo specialist for a check and service.

Here is when things started to get an interesting twist as the turbo specialist told us that the hybrid was partial, only the compressor wheel was k04-23 but the rest was stock!
When I decided to go hybrid several months ago I did the job through another shop that sent the turbo to the specialist and made all the arrangements for me. I just told them what I wanted (full hybrid wheels, shaft, thrust, porting) and we agreed on everything including the cost. But they tricked me and told the specialist to change only the compressor wheel but they charged me for the whole hybrid! Apart from the cost what they did was dangerous too because I told my current tuner that I have a full hybrid and he wrote the tune (it's custom) according to the upgrades that I thought I had, so who knows what could have happened in time and on high boost (maybe the shaft play was a first sign?). So right now I have a full hybrid turbo and I'll post some pics later where you can see the huge difference in the turbine wheel.

But the damn thing wouldn't stop whining! So we decided to change the cooler with a bigger, wider, thicker one from China (by the way here everyone goes for a made in China universal cooler that are pretty good for the money). It's almost 11 liters rated for 350bhp and in several runs going in 4th and 5th to the redline with 30°C ambient, we logged 37°C tops. With my previous custom cooler we had logged 35°C with 15°C ambient. After it was fitted we went for a run and the whine was gone (something must have hit the old cooler and made a hole in it) BUT this time the wategate's membrane went bad and I was hitting 2bars boost lol. I'm taking the wastegate for a service next week and provided that everything else goes well we will tune it one final time in 2 weeks. Right now I have a stock wastegate on and the car holds 0.8 bar boost throughout the rev range.

I hope that in my next update I'll have a dyno.

Awesome,

Glad everything worked out with your Turbo, I hate it when you have shady shops that don't do what you paid them for.

Stick with popular/reputable shops/tuners/suppliers/manufactuers, and you should be okay!

Guess what?
I finally got a hold on an Ibiza FR :happyanim:
Unfortunately, they don't come with the 1.4TSI and DSG anymore, but a 5spd manual and a 105bhp 1.2 TSI, but still is a blast to drive

also, the wiffey gave her "blessing" on the car so there was no need to get into an argue with her

Back with good news after a long time! :happyanim:
Car is now tuned and I love it.
I did change my tuner though and went with e-tuners.

The reason is that after overload's numerous attempts and crazy money on gas, my car was still suffering from misfires. Lots of fuel trims, flooded cylinders, bad gas mileage and I even had misfires in 2nd gear. They kept telling me that my car had some kind of problem (broken downpipe, blown lambda sensor etc.) and it couldn't be their tune. So they suggested to leave the car with them one more time so the mechanic would try to figure out what's wrong.

Because the car worked without any issues with the stock tune, I decided to try another tuner, specifically e-tuners so that if my car really had a problem it would show with their tune. Well, guess what, the car worked just fine from the very first pull. 0 cf, 13 degrees timing. Same boost numbers: 1.65 spike, 1.5-1.6 hold, 1.38 redline and with 50°C intake temp as it was very hot today, it dyno'd 270bhp with very fat curves on dyno dynamics rollers, which is considered very strict with the numbers. So I owe you a maha dyno so that we can see before/after gains (revo).

In the mean time the whole thing got delayed as I had to replace both the mechatronic and the clutches cause my DSG went bang. That's why I didn't get a DSG tune again, and because of that the DSG now cuts power due to torque when changing into 5th and sometimes into 4th gear, the throttle body momentarily closes and boost drops to 1 bar (and I lose half a car every time this happens against another DSG). When that happens it works like a manual transmission with OK shifts. When I had a DSG tune I didn't have any cuts but maybe this contributed to the wearing of the clutches and I don't want to risk that.

For all the above I don't blame overload even though I'm trying to get my car tuned from February but it sucks that they convinced me for example to change the valve springs because they told me that that's what's causing the misfires. Unfortunately that tune didn't work on my car, maybe because of my ECU/DSG version. As soon as it gets cold I'll install water/meth to increase timing and a boost controller so that I can finally see 300+ bhp (on a maha).

lol, last week I was wondering what ever happened to you since I haven't seen you post here in some time.

After reading again all the issues you had with the previous tune, the DSG, wastegate and that damn whistele I wonder I would had sent everything to hell and go sit in a corner to cry.

Glad you kept up and that the car is going stronger than ever, the acceleration looks brutal in the video specially against a stage 1+ 30Ed
