I envy all of you with low miles and lots of life left in your cars. My GTI has 117,000 miles now. I'd love to keep it but I don't know how much longer the engine will stand up to the mods and the severe-duty use it gets on my 30k/year commutes. Has anyone had a modded FSI motor last 200k+ miles? I've been tuned for nearly 100k miles and I've been amazed by the motor's durability but I've had enough motors pop in the past that I worry it'll happen sooner rather than later.

'06, bought new in early '07. Hoping to get another 25-30k+ as a daily driver and then turn it into a track day special when it needs some significant rebuilding.

I see people are also listing big scheduled/unscheduled maintenance items.

Big Scheduled Items
40k,80k - DSG flush ($200/did own labor).
80k - Fuel Filter

Unscheduled Items
5k - Passenger Airbag Harness - Warranty
15k - Intake Manifold Motor - Warranty
20k - AC Compressor - $800/Covered by Warranty
25k - Intake Manifold Motor Again - Warranty
49k - Driver's Side Seat Sliding Mechanism - Warranty
49k - Door ice build up inserts/body work - Warranty
61k - Driver's Side Cooling Fan - ($125/did own labor)
62k - Front PCV - ($140/did own labor, was later replaced free for recall)
62k - Diverter Valve - ($100/own labor, upgraded to spring)
70k - Rear Left Wheel Bearing - $140/did own labor)
72k - Passenger Airbag Harness Again - Extended Warranty*
80k - Steering Wheel Clock Spring - $100/did own labor
82k - Driver's Door Electronic Locking Module - $140?/own labor
84k - Pump, Cam Follower, Camshaft - $3000, Covered by Extended Warranty*
90k - Cracked Oil Filter Housing - $60/this was my fault
91k - Passenger Side Seat Sliding Mechanism - $8/own labor
99k - Front Left Wheel Bearing - $220/own labor

Notes:
1.) Suspension mods were when new, K04 since 85k.
2.) *I never paid for an extended warranty, VW sends me notices for coverage of common failures.
3.) A few times I was feeling lazy and got the dealer to quote prices for repairs. I ended up doing the work myself every single time as labor generally tripled the cost.
4.) Some of those are my fault and/or caused by mods. For example the wheel bearings I believe went from the extra force of the StopTech kit. I'm going to do the Right wheel bearing in another 1k or as I think it's starting to act up.

Would I buy the car again?
Yes! I see it sort of like a dog that won't behave. It can be annoying, but you somehow can't bring yourself to fault it because it's awesome. If I had to pay dealer prices for labor though, I probably would've skipped the mods.

How common is it to see 200k+ GTI's? In the Panther world not uncommon to see 300-400k (livery) on the 4.6 2v.

Apples/oranges. Nobody (at least in my part of the world) uses a GTI as a limo or a taxi. Very few are driven by delivery, salesmen, etc and so you simply aren't going to see that kind of mileage out of a car that hit the streets in '06.

Besides, wasn't the Panther platform introduced way back in the 1900's or something?!

Oh, nhbubba meant limo/taxi by "livery." The first time I read it, I was thinking "livery" as in "Light Blue Gulf Oil Livery." lol.

And yeah, while I don't know of any 2.0Ts with mileage that high (yet), there are certainly some ultra-high mileage 1.8Ts. 400k content here.

My guess is considerably more upkeep on that 1.8T than a typical 4.6 Modular V8 though.

I might make it to 200k on this car. I just hit 100k on my 2008. If I have the car for 4 more years, it will hit 200. The way it's running I don't see why it won't make it.
