Interesting. One of my GTI's license plate bulbs went out a few days ago and I never got the bulb out warning. I may have to check that with Vag Com.

With stock incandescent bulbs, both license lights must fail before a bulb out is detected.
i.e. It is normal for just one incandescent bulb to satisfy the CEC.

Oh well that explains it then. Only the right side was burned out. Seems pointless to even have that feature then since the PD won't care if one or both are out; you'll get pulled over regardless.

The LEDs are too efficient.
they do not draw enough power, the CEC determines that is an error,
and kills power to the circuit.
You should get a bulb out and
a message on the MFD at startup identifying the failed circuit.

You must either increase the load by adding a resistor or
use bulbs that draw enough power, typcially called error canceling,
but the added heat of those bulbs will just kill them faster.
Been there, done that.
I finally went to dedicated LED fixtures.

And even the 18 SMD LEDs on just one of those is not enough draw,
it takes two of them working properly to satisfy the CEC.
I like that. with stock bulbs, both have to fail before you get the lamp out.
With the LED fixtures, any failure will be reported immediately.

Thanks a lot
Where can I find these??

Not in OH - the law here states only one light illuminating the license plate is required.

Thanks man..... how easy is the install??
Swapping license plate light fixtures is really easy.

Each license plate fixture has a removable bulb sub-assembly, held in by two phillips head screws on mine.
This sub assembly locks the release catch for the entire fixture.
You can see the holes where the screws mount the bulb/lens sub-assembly to the fixture in this photo.

After removing the bulb holder, you can then release the entire fixture by pressing the release catch,
Tilt the bulb holder away from the bumper and the catch pins on the other end will come free.

The release catch is on one end of the fixture, visible in these photos.

Then release the body wiring harness attached to the fixture.

Plug the new fixture to the harness, snap into the bumper - done.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I just wanted to be sure its the right led i choose.
Is a M4 led the same as an W5W?
And the M38 is the same as an Festoon?
Does any of the led need to be Canbus ready led for them to work and my MFA wont alert me?

Yes

No, the M28 is.

Interrior - footwell lights only. Exterior - all of them.
But the the Polarg bulbs are not LED, they are incandescent with a blue filter.
As such, they are canbus ready, just like stock bulbs.

Hey everyone, sorry for bumping an old thread! But I have a UK Golf with the standard headlights, I love the look of the front parking lights. Can I fit these and if so how? And where can you get them from now, as the 1st link doesn't work? Thanks everyone!
