My pcv fails and the dealer puts a new one on every mounth or two now and I am really sick of it!

My car dosent like to start, shakes, shutters, idles good but runs bad becuase pcv leaks and dosent hold much boost.
I removed the tube from the pcv and put a cap on the intake manifold and put a crank case vent on the pcv side and guess what it starts up fine, runs great holds boost and it idles decent.

I have 13,xxx miles on my 07 gti just had a new fuel sensor, pump and pcv put on weeks ago and the pcv is already going out.

my question is can I plug the intake manifold side and put a vent on the pcv side without a cel or any harm to the motor?

thanks,

Have you looked into any 3rd party catch can options? I know BSH has a ton of PCV options. Worth at least looking into.

The problem was that I had a 09 rabbit 2.5 biggest pos i have ever owned and my first car was a dodge neon was better than that rabbit.

Sorry to get off topic so the dealer bought back that rabbit back,I still took some what of a loss and they gave me a good deal on a 07 gti that had 10,000 miles. The gti now has 13,xxx and it is in the dealer so freaking much that I dont drive it any more if I dont have to.Dont get me wrong I love it just parts do not last.

I know of a couple ways to get this car reliable but they will void the warrenty but if I keep the car stock it will keep having problems. Its a never ending cycle.I was layed off and work part time now so i cant take another loss on trading this car in to get something else.

My car has the new revised "F" pcv valve but when the turbo is building boost it goes past the pcv into the valve cover and weaps oil from the oil filler neck.

I dont know what im going to do next?

i was looking @ the catch can design and hooked one up from the old chevy parts i had in my garage with a crank case vent on top of the catch can.it idles good drove fine held boost with no leaks.Im going to try this for a while.A plus is now all of that oil wont be going into the combustion chamber and valve seats gumming every thing up.

If the car has problems i can take it off in 5 min and take it to the dealer and let them figure something out.

thanks,

To answer your question yes. Just attach a small hose with a filter on the end and your good to go. It'll make a bit of a mess but it will solve your pcv issue and effectively release crank case pressure. Personally I would do this with a working diaphgram first though as the air pressure from the intake manifold is what causes the valve to rip.

Have you verified via the simple blow test that your pcv is indeed failing first?

I think i have it now.I not used to working on turbo cars.Im used to Gm and stuff being simple.

So I have a cap over the intake manifold and @ the pcv I have a tube going to a catch can with a crank case vent on top of the catch can.

Its working pretty good and I drove it for a couple hrs tonight. It pushing the oil vapors out and now since they line from the intake is gone no more boost is being pushed into the valve cover.

I only have two dealers in my area one is 45 miles away and the other is 55miles.The one that is closer is known for being a rip off dumb ace place. The other dealer is better but they still dont know much. The head mechanic told me he has never heard of pcv problems on these cars or about the dv failing. He said I was the first to have this problem?

thanks for the catch can idea!
