Hi just bought a 09’ VW GTI MKV with the tsi engine. Bought it on Monday and already have a check engine light, P0456, so I know that’s most likely the purge valve which I have just the valve on order and on the way already. My question is how do you guys with the tsi engine in the 09’ find parts? Every time I search it gives me parts for the fsi engine. Any tips?

P0456 could be the N80 or a leak in the "EVAP/fuel tank" system. It is detecting a leak when the EVAP leak detection pump tests the system by pressurizing it all.

You just check for engine parts for 2009 GTI TSI or mk6 GTI up to 2014....if it is engine parts.

Shop by vehicle__enter your model info__select TSI parts if you entered mk5 gti...as both TSI and FSI are listed: https://www.ecstuning.com/?gclid=Cj...I_9C--8HEss56pP78mX8ItmwFfX3A4rRoCEOoQAvD_BwE

Search here and enter model and year: https://www.vwpartsvortex.com/v-2009-volkswagen-gti--base--2-0l-l4-gas

If you find an OE part number....do a search with the number on ECS's site to confirm it is a TSI part.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah I’m starting with the easiest thing to replace first. I did the seal in the gas cap cause that light came on the day before the cel. Haven’t cleared it to see if it will stay off but I’ll be replacing the valve next week. Thank you for the tips on searching.

If you have a vacuum pump...you could test the N80 valve. This doesn't check the solenoid function, just the mechanical function. This is my vid showing how the N80 can leak when there is vacuum applied at idle;

Don’t have one but thank you for the help. I reset the cel today for two reasons, 1. To see if it comes back, maybe it was the gas cap and the code just needed to be reset 2. To tell me how long it takes for the monitors to kick in I’m pretty sure it’s gonna come back so I’ll replace the valve on Tuesday and keep you guys updated.

Best to clear it, then see if it comes back.
Yeah I did that, waiting to see. I did notice that when I filled up today my gas cap is a lot tighter after I replaced the seal than with the old seal. Didn’t really pay attention to it till now. The old one would keep turning and clicking with ease after it was “tight” this new seal takes a bit of force to turn it after the first click, if any of that makes sense.
