New owner, power steering rack question

I bought an 08 GTI three door stick
Engine mounts toast, turbo melted power steering rack motor enclosure, so i need a new rack.
Question: are they generic or do i need to grab the PN off the old one and make sure i get the same?
Intend to do the work myself, and buy a used part if possible.

You '08 may have a GEN 2 or 3 rack depends on the build bate of the car and that can be found on the door jamb label. If build is after 6/30/08 you should have the Gen 3 rack. If you use a Gen 3 rack to replace a Gen 2 or Gen1 you will need a new wiring harness 1K1971111AJ.

The Gen2 rack is connected to the subframe with 4 bolts and Gen3 is connected with 3 bolts.
