275's are totally do able with a flare set up and the fenders cut.

The current 275's have plenty of room width wise. Only thing to watch for is tire heigth. I can barely get full lock because of hitting the inner fender well near (back lower) And had to cut some rocker out to get that far.

Few of the SMF guys are sad I won't be running this at pro and tour events any more. But that opens up this car for more track abuse and eventual wheel to wheel with it. Might end up codriving a stx preped s14 for pro and tour events


What Pro and Tours will you be at? I'm doing all 4 in California but my family is from Toledo so I might try to do one of the tours in Ohio.

I fried my FRS motor from oil starvation on 255 street tires. Boxer motors are known for bad oil pick-up though.

New motor has baffle.

Yikes. What's a new motor going for? Nice to see all the aftermarket rolling out for your car. I am installing a clockwise motion baffle this weekend in my k20 honda. I see it as a $300 piece of mind with redline now 9200.

I got a used motor with 2k miles on it for just over 3k. Yeah the baffle for the FRS was only $180... Wish I would have installed one right away. Lots of the big shops doing "racecar" FRS builds are noting lots of oil circulation and cooling issues, but like you said plenty of aftermarket to deal with that now. I have had the redline on the FRS to 8,500 now, it needs it for autoX since the gears are so low, I can hit 60 in 2nd gear now!

But sorry for tangent, back to the MKV build!

Been an insane week here.

Anyway car is back running. Need to figure out some issues with the DSG later today (pan was touching mechatronic unit....)

As for the oiling issues. I am looking into different options for baffling and additional cooling. Last season with the K04 i was only able to get about 5 -7 hard laps out of the car before engine oil sump temp was 300F...

Im not sure what events I will be at yet. I have to see if the car I was planning to cordrive will be ready and what not. But toledo and wilmington are fairly close to me and great lots.

Glad you are liking the Frs. Last season I got a taste of a stock on on primacys, to a STX prep one, to a Greddy turbo one. I am really impressed with that chassis. Very fun car.

Talk to Issam Abed from INA-Engineering. He just set me up with his Oil Cooler kit for the MKV. This is going in with my K04 too. :thumbsup:

I was planning on calling INA on their kit as well as possibly the 1.8T oil pump conversion and balance shaft delete. More capacity, more cooling, and baffle.

In other news spent the day messing with the car. Mechatronics unit has a failed N215 valve. Right where the pan crashed into it.

Have the current one out and set up to swap parts from one of my 2 spare mechatronics. If something ends up being wrong hardware wise I also have my old trans with a damaged case for parts.

Naw no ring gear changes.

Thats the oil pump and speed sensor wheel in the usual position of 5th on an o20/o2a trans.

Update:

Trans repairs went well. Ended up partially taking apart 3 mechatronic units and repairing them making 2 good ones. (the one from the wreck had a cracked electronic board)

Removed some sound deading tonight. Took the weekend off from working on the cars and went and enjoyed all the snow we have snowmobiling.

Got some time to get the dash and everything out. Running and cooling well and all gears work.

Dash and heater box was a good chunk of work to get our clean finding all the bolts and where to disconnect stuff. Bentley manual didn't show too how it came apart.

Slowly getting there. Did some interior cleaning of all the sound deadening material/adhesive. As well as got the doors cut and painted for the doorbars.

I have to order my new seat soon and make the appointment with the cage builder.
