MK5 Ignition Issues

Good afternoon, long time lurker first time poster and new to the site.

I own a 2008 GTI two door FSI with DSG. Since I bought it, I've had a myriad of issues I'm working through, but this one has me stumped.

My GTI was throwing multiple ignition codes (terminal X, S, Trrminal 15). I figured it was the ignition switch, so I swapped it out- pretty basic install. But now there is a new issue, after installing the new switch, all codes are gone. BUT, now when I turn the car off, the key won't come out of the ignition when I shut it off. If I disconnect the battery or unplug the switch I can turn the key and remove it, but with power it won't let the key release. I've used two different switches and have the same issue. I'm at a loss. Unfortunately I wasn't able to swap the original switch back in, as that one came out in pieces.

Any help or ideas on what's causing this is greatly appreciated.

probably an issue on mechanical side of switch, I assume you changed the electrical switch connector side??
my thoughts:
lots of key stuck in ignition issues - ends up some broken bits past the lock cylinder
you can take it apart and remove some bits and have it still function, or buy an new mechanism
could possibly be an assembly issue - how you put it back together

I re-read my post: the lock cylinder that the key goes into - is always usually fine

The mechanical assembly that houses the lock cylinder is what messes up/breaks, in your case the the post below (following) explains the interlock in that mechanical assembly (when everything is working)
but if the system was working before - either the "switch"/mechanical assembly was not re-assembled correctly or is faulty

On non manual cars the MK5 uses a lock solenoid N376 this prevents the key being removed unless parking lock is engaged. Scan this car of other codes.
