Misfire in cylinder 1, coils plugs and injector changed

Hi

Car is currently sitting in dealership as it had started misfiring straight after some work was done on car.

As title suggests it’s had all three components now done, still rough idle and misfires at idle as well. Cold start is bad with above symptoms once I get going it’s not bad at all only when I stop.

They are trying to update the software and re code the new injector so we will see tomorrow how this goes (not that I hold much hope) it’s getting to the point nowhere monetarily that I can no longer put any more money into this car as it’s essentially broke me, if this doesn’t solve it I’m going to have the carbon walnut blasted in the intake valves and failing that the car is gone.

Just seeing if there is anyone that has experienced these issues and could help

Thanks

Could be carbon buildup or low compression in that cylinder

Thanks very much for the reply, sorry forgot to mention that they had done a compression test and all was good across the board, so the head tech said to me that they were certain it was injector related so I just said ye change it so.

I’ll see what they come back with in the morning, just seems so odd to me that car would start misfiring after all this work done.

The manifold they said had multiple faults and they said there was lots of carbon around it so they replaced the whole system, along with full service ,a new battery (the old one was giving too high of a reading) new thermostat. From reading multiple forums it seems that the process of elimination is sparks, coils, injectors and or carbon.

There is no cel but when they plug it in I guess there’s a pending code or something, along with the fact I can feel the vibration in the cabin especially at cold starts.

It’s 300 euros to get the thing walnut blasted by an Indy i was recommended to so maybe that’s the last throw of the dice for me.

I’ve put about 3k sorting it and it’s almost busted me now.

Thanks again for the advice I’ll let you know how it goes

They changed injector on cylinder 1, then this happened.

They cleaned all other injector and put fuel system cleaner through engine, car ran fine for 1 day, then car started blinking cel just before I made it into work. Had to get towed to dealership after work waited 3 hours for recovery.

Any thoughts lads??

Could still be carbon build up. You have to take the intake manifold off and physically scrape and vacuum the crap out.

I don't know if you have a TSI or an FSI engine, the switch over was 2008.5 here in the States, but there are DIY's out there for both.

Thanks pal, it’s fsi engine, they still want to change 2 more injectors but I know there’s no way 3 could fail like that, it’s getting a circuit error for maf as well ( intermittent) hard to know really

You hjave to remove the intake manifold to replace injectors, tell your shop to look at the top of the valves while its off (the areas where the paper towels are in the picture below

I bet they will look like this:

I understand thanks , have done a lot of research into it I’m just stumped, when they replaced the manifold they cleaned out the ports into the valves but not the valves themselves. Just to clarify this misfire problem was not evident until the first lot of work was done I.e new manifold full service new thermostat etc.

They rang me this afternoon and said the misfire is now staying on cylinder 2, they swapped over plugs and coils and it remained on number 2, recommending changing all injectors and that they will cover labour if I cover parts.

They are so convinced that it is that there giving me such a heavy discount, and they’ve had the new manifold off twice now.

Getting the valves done was going to be my next job to do. I’ve found with this car that if I have her a bit of welly and opened up the throttle it didn’t feel smooth, it almost felt like it stuttered a bit as well, don’t know if that makes any sense

Just an update on the car, injector in cylinder 2 failed and set a blinking cel, I took the car to a specialist who installed a new set of injectors and done the carbon cleaning.

Car is now running perfect for the first time since owning it, looking forward to being able to enjoy it
