is blacked out taillight illegal?

As a general rule, the majority of aftermarket tailights are not DOT approved (and not sure what requirements you have in Canada, just speaking for US) and therefore, are not legal to use on cars here. However, that being said, will you get pulled over or ticketed for it?....no. Smoked taillights are a different story, if they are tinted or sprayed to be that way (and are excessively dark), you may get pulled over for it. The ones you linked look like the internal portions are actually black, and they are not simply tinted over a normal red fixture....so that might still light up bright as OEM and be fine. Are they street legal? Probably not, but I would say you're good regardless, IMO.

i spoke to a cop showed pictures. he said became a bigger target. as long as the lights all show should be fine. suggest i smoke it then go black.
