Early model as in? Cause Volkswagen and Audi weren't always owned by the same people. I don't think that it has anything to do with engine management, I've often heard VAG as a substitute for OEM. Could you be thinking of this because the VAG-Com lets you edit settings for the ECU and take logs from the ECU?

no what I meant was the early cars like the original bugs, mk1 golfs, mk1 rabbits, the bus', etc.
I thought I heard that the VAG cars were the mk2's and later.

Original bugs and all those others were waaaay before vw and audi joined. I think that mk 2's, and 3's may have been too, I'll check.

Edit, so I checked, and actually even MK1's were after VW bought Audi. VW bought Audi in the 40's.
