Like said, I wouldn't say she's high maintenance. She is just not very culturally competent, and has a very difficult time going out of her comfort zone. Also may be a bit paranoid. It sounds like she really hasnt experience the world. The world isnt all nice and sweet. I know NYC isnt the cleanest city but just walk around and you'll see why people love that city and as for your problem if you like going to chinatown and the casinos just go with out her.
