Looks like there was no real solution to OP's problem. Im having the same issue, same side, I've replaced the igniter, tried the ballast from the right side, everything. No luck. Any one else find a solution?

HID problems

Hello. I'm also having problems with my HID lights. (96.000 miles) driver side is not working at all and passenger side flickers and turns of while driving. Had switched sides and works, ballast and bulbs were replaced , igniter was replaced as well. When I switched out the ballast I had to manually plug and unplug the driver side. Blinker stopped working after the ballast side. Friend went in with computer erased the codes. Blinker worked again and light didn't. Not even manually. Now the passenger side starts flickering while driving and turns off too and I have no lights... Took it to the dealer and they think it's the cecm. I'm just so annoyed with this light problem. I have been taking it around trying to get it fixed. The dealer wants of course 250 for the cecm and plus installation 500. I don't even know if that would fix my light issue. Can I buy a used cecm? Can they flash it and program it? So I hear it's a 50/50 chance it works if I buy a used j519( I think that's what they said I need) and also I think they said it had to match exactly my module with the numbers at the end. I just want my lights to work. :mad0259:

I don't think there is a separate fuse, but I had them tested as well. The shop I also took it to in addition to what I did said they checked the fuses and they were good. They checked the power going to the headlight and said all of that checked out as well. That's when they suggested changing the entire assembly with all components as well. Zero luck...

I hope you did not pay this lousy shop as they did not fix the job...I had this trouble also, but luckily it disappeared after charging the battery and replacing the bulb.
The Dealership said that there is a problem with low voltage which plays haywire with the electronics and could destroy the component if one installs an "overcharged" battery fresh from the charger. (mine was 14.9 volts)
Same could happen if one uses starter cables...
However, I recommend to go to a dealership and bite in the lemon, as the coppers are onto you. (And get a refund from that other mechanic!)

Kind of a thread bump, but has anyone had any luck? I was driving home last night and i noticed that my passenger side hid was scanning the road. It went up then back down and then did it again like a mile later then it just shut off. Once i got home i shut my car off, turned it back on and it was fine, went to go drive to work this morning and the light was completely out again and never came on. Any ideas? I replaced both bulbs back in september and the light never went pinkish/purple.

108,600 on my MKV R32 and low and behold my driver side light went out and Left Dipped Beam Not Working.

I bought a new bulb thinking that was the problem and same problem. Looked further into the light and the coating over the wire is brittle and fell apart. Started looking at the pin connector and it looked like he wires may have touched, so I got some electrical tape and tried to tape it up the best I could and still nothing. Changed the igniter from the passenger side and still no go on the Dvr Side.

Next I will have to pull both lights off and see if I can switch the ballast to see if the this will fix the problem on he driver side and if so, I will have to buy one used from eBay to get both lights working.

Seems that once my car hit 100,000 miles on it, the electrical gremlins are starting to come out of the cracks.

Now I have (2) o2 Sensors that are throwing codes, and check engine light will come on from time to time and then turn off when it is a warm day.....and now my fuel guage will completely go dead and fall with no reading.

Half of me says to trade it is when the weather is good and hope for the best and the other half of me wants to keep it for my 14 year old son for his first car....

Anyone else have these problems once they hit over 100K

Also, is there any way of testing the ballast other then plug and play to the other side? Will this throw a code that can be read from the Vag Com?

I'm approaching 100k, my passenger light has been out for years due to lack of cash to get it looked at. I swapped ignitor and bulbs, both work on the driver side just fine. I haven't switched ballasts due in part to weather.

At the enclosure I get power, between the plug and the ballast/whatever is next is where my problem seems to lie.

ASCI_Blue - I’ve found the Ballast from LKQ on eBay for the ballast. I thought about buying one so I am able to swap it out to see if that will work or not. I also need to find a wiring harness for the light to swap that out as well since the wires are so brittle the coating just falls off with the slightest touch.

Absolutely disappointed on how crappy the wiring harness is on the lights. I can’t believe that the coating on the wiring harness is brittle and falls apart.

I've tried looking for a harness with no luck. It seems the only way to get one is buying a new headlight housing.

The error code on mine is Open to Plus which isn't very descriptive. Has a wire been severed so it doesn't work or has something in the ballast melted and done something.

On my light the coating on the wires is just falling off and exposing the raw wiring. I may look around to see if there is anyone who sells a wiring harness for the lights. If I do, I’ll post a link here just Incase someone is looking for a light harness.

I have a feeling that the wires may have touched at one point and shorted out my ballast in the driver side. Not sure if there is a way to properly test the ballast or not?

The only wiring harness I have seen is from this company and I do not know how legitimate they are. http://www.oemxenonshop.com/Volkswa...riginal-Ballast-Bulb-Igniter-Replacement.html

Yeah...they are definitely a Chinese company. Wonder if anyone from here has ever ordered from them.

I still have not had a chance to work on the light. I thought about taking the light off and buy some shrink tubing to see if that will fix the harness, but I’m not 100% sure what I’m going to do as if yet. I need to take it to the shop to see what codes are coming up for a couple of other issues - they will plug a Vag Com to it and run some diagnostics to see why my o2sensors are going on and off.

Update as of 10/13/2018 - Driver side Light still does not work. Replaced both lights, igniters, and ballasts - I am at my wits end with this car...

Anyone have an idea on how to test the voltage on the Driver side light plug? I am now in San Antonio, Texas and I am not able to find anyone who is local or find any shops in the surrounding area to have them check it out and I really do not want to take it to the dealership....FML!!

Replaced both with new lights and everything.....what the heck is the problem...everything looks like it should work.....uuugh

Anyone have any new ideas or new steps to see what the heck is going on? If anyone is in the local San Antonio area, I would gladly pay to have my car on a Vagcom so I can see what the deal is with this damn car.

So all new parts from the 12pin headlight housing plug connector and no DS headlight? The rest of the lights in that housing are functioning properly?

Check your PM for wiring diagrams, you need to take a look at the headlight plug 12 pin connector for power at T12p/6 and ground at T12p/5.

PS have you used Vcds to see if or what dtc you may have for lighting.
