Help with electrical connector seals

I unplugged a few electrical connectors today to clean the contacts using contact cleaner/brake cleaner. The problem is, some of the brake cleaner got onto the rubber seals in the connector, and now it seems like the seals expanded enough that the connector wont click when plugging it back in.

Has anyone come across this? I wonder if the rubber has permanently expanded, or it just needs time to shrink back to normal.

The whole idea of the rubber seals is that the contacts are protected. Is there a reason you cleaned them? You may need new rubber seals now.

Sorry, I meant silicone seals.

I didn't intend to clean the seals themselves, but the overspray got onto them. When I plug the connector in now, it is pushing onto the seal instead of the seal going around the terminal.
