BTW, Porsche PDK is a $7000 option and a $30,000 replacement part... yes $30,000 :yikes:

Sorry Dingah, a little off topic here.

i test drove a 135i last month.
asked about the 330 with BMW's dsg (can't remember what they call theirs)
but they want 6k for it. :eyebulge:

theres no doubt that these would be expensive to repair.

p.s
it was very difficult for me to find someone to install my LSD on the DSG, no one wants to touch it.
but it is going in. should be ready by next week:smile:

Who did you end up getting to do it?

With the DSG becoming more common and with cars with DSG only just leaving warranty I'm sure that you will get places that do automatic transmissions doing rebuilds and upgrades in the future. At the moment through people view them as some kid of magic box, just got to get the old school mechanics to move forward!

i got a mob called A&B automotive.
they specialise in ZF trannies.
they also do work for VW, Audi and Ford.

the work shop is like a lab. very clean.

if i could find a DSG from a wrecked car, i would buy it.

Yo Caper, stop beating on the DSG. Sure it will cost a good amount of money to replace if it goes bad, I can tell I've read quite a few post on the DSG and there is the odd problem sure, to say it's a timebomb though is a bit extreme. I'm sure for every DSG problem you may find, there will be many more with no problems whatsoever, I am basing this on the fact that if someone has no problem then they will not start a thread or chime in on a thread, saying "oh and by the way just thought I would let you know my DSG is running fine", however if there is a problem it will surely be expressed.

As well I'm not sure if you're aware or not, the DSG is in some high powered chipped cars that put out many KW's with no hint of problem and been running for thousands of kilometres as stated by one or more of the tuning and performance companies (APR, GIAC, REVO etc) and no I'm not looking the thread/s or pages up again.

You could of course make the argument that a manual has less moving parts and is therefore less likely to fail and to that I would say fair enough, however that would hardly make the DSG a timebomb or anything of the sort.

Don't mean to have a rant, I just don't think you should be making destructive/disparaging comments .

$25,000 for DSG at CCC dealer . Doanld R32 on this fourm can confirm this.

Would you buy a DSG from a wrecker?????????????????

DSG are a time bomb IMO,

Mine was replaced earlier this year and was told the job would have costed me $25000 if I had no warranty. Cost to VW, dealer or otherwise, unknown. I use the flappy paddle most of the time. D only on freeway. But for my extended warranty, I would be concerned for the 4th year of my lease. Cheers Donald

Whether 83,000Km is a concern or not depends on where and how it was driven. If it was driven mostly on the highway on cruise control at 110Kmh then very few parts will have significant wear. If it was driven hard in heavy traffic all the time then I'd look around for a better car.

If it is still covered by the 3 yr factory warranty then it would be worth investigating what coverage the extended VW warranty would give them.

3000 pounds is the price in the UK, I've seen this price posted a few times.

^ and I am sure the price of cars in the U.K. is also significantly cheaper. Face it folks. We are getting robbed here in AU... What we need is to build 5 or 10 or 20 more states in the desert so that we up the population, competition, demand for cars. Then someone needs to figure out how to physically move Australia closer to the rest of the country so that shipment does not cost us an arm and a leg.

I'd disagree with the 'highway driving' being ok for high klms comments.

Of course, you don't want an engine that has been thrashed. BUT at the same time, you don't want an engine that has spent 99% of its time at 3000rpm. You'll have an engine that is 'stuck in its ways' - the beauty of the Rrrr 3.2 6 is its flexibility across the entire rev range and you'd want to know that it's had its fair share of 'enthusiastic' driving.

High K's on the Rrr engine is of course also less of a concern than it is on a 4 pot, 6's having a longer life expectancy than 4's before a rebuild is necessary (and even more so when the 4 is forced induction).

Tell him to buy the blue one with the recaros. That one is a great deal. The 3.2 6 is beautiful with a stick shift - sure it's not as fast but the flexibility of the engine is sooooo much more enjoyable, and doing your own rev matching on downshifts (with the pop from the exhaust to match) is much more satisfying than having a machine do it for you!
