To quote Arin@APR in the Stage 3+ Development thread...

The FSI head does not flow as well as the TSI.
The FSI is more susceptible to knock than the TSI.
The FSI does not have as good of a fueling system as the TSI.
The FSI has more internal losses compared to the TSI.

The TSI is just better so it makes more power. We should expect that form a completely new engine from VW. That's how progress works. That's all.

then why did they reintroduce the FSI into the new MK6 R???

if were talking about power the new R is the most powerful golf VW built stockwise and it uses the FSI engine...why didnt they use the TSI for the new R??

I think I read that it was because they had already done the R&D for the k04 on the FSI, so they just re-used that rather than re-do it on the TSI. Kind of a shit move I think, but we'll see how it goes

Are we sure it is the FSI? I have seen one report that its the TSI (this). If it is a version of the FSI is will only be a version. There are guaranteed to be some changes to the motor. For one the fuel system has to be upgraded to reach those hp numbers, turbo and such.

I was going to pick one up until I started to hear that it was the FSI. I guess I will have to wait and see how many changes they have done to the setup.

I've convinced myself into not wasting my time with a Golf R. Ideally my next car would be an Audi TTRS but naturally the quantities they're supposed to be bringing to the States is absurdly small over the next two years. But the Golf R is disappointing to me.
