Foreign Car Haters

What is everyone's take on all the people who seem to hate foreign cars?

I see it all the time here, near Detroit, people with bumper stickers like: "Out of a job yet, keep buying foreign!" and "What you drive, drives America!". Maybe this type of thing isn't done as much in other states, I'm not sure. But I see it here alot.

I think it's actually funny a little bit because, to me, disliking a product because of who / where its made is a form of racial discrimination.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think it's ok to support your local economy. But when you go as far as purposely disliking something because it wasn't made in your backyard.

I'm interested to see what other people have to say...

these people with the stickers usually dont realize that alot of "american" cars are made in mexico and canada and alot of "Japanese" and some "German" cars are made in the USA lol

My thinking also. My fiancee drives a monte carlo and they're made in Canada and Mexico... and Toyotas are made in the US aren't they???

edit: just found this link from last year saying they're building another in Mississippi which brings to total number to 8 plants toyota has in the US.

i guess the people who think ^ this also think that only foreign people work in the plants as well.

yea most of GM's stuff is made in canada, mexico and a lot of the electronics are from japan.... the "drive american cars" people are severely misinformed and whenever you try and explain that to them they get all pissy

I think a lot of that has to do with the demographic of that area. I have never seen a sticker like that around here.

ya, you will find that near "american" automotive plants, mainly due to people that have lost their jobs at said plants due to cut backs or automation.

there's a reason "foreign" cars sell better, typically they last longer. i've owned two gm's, both were pretty much done before 100k... whereas my old mk3 is now my brother's beater and is around 250k

Has someone actually told you that?!??
I just find it absolutely mind blowing. No, we don't live in 2008.

If there was an "american" car for the same price with all the features that come with my gti (that looked good - haha) I'd consider it.

x2 for sho. if they styled the cobalt body better and jazzed up the interior nicer, I would give the cobalt ss turbo a shot. but until then(my guess is never lol) I will be buying foreign until the "american" car companies can come out with some actual quality vehicles.

there are alot of people that just like to swing from the USA sachel instead of pushing americans to evolve in the ever growing economy, they are elitists and steadfast that our way is THE way and if its worked before there is no reason to change.
