Fitting an RNS 510 / Battery Drain.

Nibs

Evening Guys,

I have been reading a few forums regarding the RNS 510 battery drain issues, some people people fix to the problem properly and some have temporary bodge jobs rather than upgrade their Firmware / gateway etc they simple remove the fuse.

Surely if you remove the fuse and therefore removing the supply to the radio you loose your settings / saved settings?? unless removing the fuse will simply isolate the main supply from the battery and there is another supply to the radio (a low voltage supply to maintain the settings etc) which remains live from another source in the car?

if you want to ensure your radio doesn't drain your battery and don't want to upgrade the gateway / firmware surely a relay could be installed in series with the supply from the battery and connect the coil to the ignition would isolate the supply from the battery every time you remove the keys? obviously this isn't a decent fix but a lot easier than removing the fuse after every drive?

Anyone installed an RNS 510 and have had to overcome the battery drain issue? anyone updated their firmware and if so how, is it a CD or via Vagcom?

Any comments welcome chaps.
