There is a different Resonator included with the Sport Exhaust.

decent tips like those found on Borla exhausts go for around $140....

I wouldn't necessarily say that's true. I'm running that setup now with my 3" down pipe and it's louder. The resonator on the driver gear exhaust is much larger than the one on the stock cat-back system. My guess is they upped the size of the resonator on the driver gear exhaust to compensate for the lack of a muffler. Main reason why I picked this up
